The Nissan Sentra has remained one of the best-selling vehicles for close to 35 years. It has undergone design changes resulting in seven different generations. Automatic emergency braking was added to the list of safety features for all trim models except for those that have manual transmissions. They added 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels for the SV trim package. A rearview monitor has been added to the S trim as a standard feature. They have also added a 5-inch color display, Siri connectivity, Bluetooth, and an eyes free display. It has added dual zone automatic temperature control for more models than before. This feature is now available on SV models and above. The SL trim level added a moonroof and the Bose Premium Audio System to its list of amenities. As you can see, there are many more things to be excited about with the new Sentra.
Nissan Sentra trim levels include the S, SV, SR, and as SL models. The S is the base model. The S and SV models feature air-conditioning, auxiliary audio jack, and power accessories. The SV is similar to the S, only there is a greater potential for adding options such as keyless ignition and entry, a USB/iPod interface, and Bluetooth. The SR model is the sport edition, which differs from the SV. All of the items that are optional on the SV model are considered standard on the SR. The SL added dual-zone automatic climate control as a feature. For the SL model, Nissan customers can add features such as a navigation system, smart phone app, leather upholstery, an upgraded audio system, and a sunroof. The Nissan Sentra offers a spacious trunk for cargo, but also can seat five passengers with plenty of room.
The S, SV, and SL models have a 1.8 L / 130 HP four-cylinder engine that can deliver approximately 128 lb-ft of torque. These models get an average estimated 27 mpg city and 35 mpg Highway. The most basic base model features a 6-speed manual transmission. The SV and SL models feature a CVT w/OD transmission. The SR trim package offers the option of a Turbocharged engine and either a manual or CVT transmission. The 1.6L Turbocharged engine with an Intercooler increases the horsepower of the Sentra to 188 HP at 5600 rpm. It also increases the torque to 177 lb-ft at 5200 rpm. It manages to deliver all of this power and still gets 27 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.
Nissan Sentra received excellent ratings in both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash test and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) tests. It received good ratings in the IIHS crash test reports across the board. In the NHTSA tests, it received a four out of five stars in every test except the side crash test where it received a five out of five stars. The Sentra has several safety features as standard on all trim models. They include driver, passenger, rear head, and front side airbags. They also have 4-wheel ABS brakes, front disc and rear drum brakes, as well as brake assist. Electronic stability control and traction control help keep the chassis of the vehicle steady even on rough terrain.
