It's essential to bring your vehicle into our service department regularly for service and maintenance. Still, there are times when problems will creep up regardless of when your last service appointment was. If you think that your engine is overheating, we encourage you to seek assistance from our technicians as soon as possible to prevent permanent damage. As soon as you see that the thermostat gauge starts to creep up, let us take a look at the following components of your cooling system.

Belt and Hoses

Belts and hoses become damaged more often than you think. Because these areas of your cooling system are an integral part of how your engine keeps itself cool, we'll take a look for any splits or holes that could be causing leaks of coolant.

Water Pumps

The coolant in your engine has to be pumped through various areas to help regulate temperature. Your water pump provides this force, but there's a lot that can go wrong, which would lead to overheating. If your vehicle is older, we look for signs of wear on your water pump that could indicate there's an issue.

Radiator Function

Your radiator must be functioning correctly for heat and pressure to be radiated out into the atmosphere around your car. If you were to let all of this heat build-up, you could end up having quite the excess amount of heat. Imagine all of the sensitive components internally that could be affected.

Thermostat Concerns

Your thermostat is often the first thing we look at when you've brought in an overheating vehicle. After all, this is what is used to keep your engine's temperature at a specific degree. We'll also take a look at the valve inside your thermostat that controls how much coolant is flowing through your engine. If this isn't moving freely, coolant can't make its way through to the other components of your cooling system.

Don't put off scheduling an appointment for your vehicle at Gwinnett Place Nissan if you're concerned that your engine is overheating. Even if the temperature seems to come back down on its own, this is still a warning sign that something catastrophic could occur shortly. It's best to have us check everything out before you find yourself stranded on the side of the road.
