Car Sounds and What the Issue Could Be
One of the first indications that your car may need servicing is when you start hearing unusual sounds. These noises can originate from many car parts. If you happen to hear strange sounds from the car, refer to the below list of common sounds and what issues it could be indicating.
Squeaky Brakes
Brakes are subjected to a considerable amount of stress. At the end of it all, they may need some adjustment or service to help it remain in good shape. Brakes will generally make squeaking sounds when it's time for a replacement. This noise is one main reason why you need a mechanic. If you hear squeaking brakes from your car, note that this noise might mean that parts of the braking system are wearing thin, namely the rotors or brake pads. A mechanic is the best person to correct the squeaky brakes through lubrication or replacement of worn parts.
Engine Rattling
The rattling noises from the engine originates from a premature ignition. Some experts will call it pre-detonation. This noise is one problem that may be contributed by various issues due to the improper ignition timing, engine overheating, or an improper fuel octane. These problems usually result in an incorrect mixing of fuel and air, which eventually causes an early engine ignition. This can damage various parts, including pistons, connecting rods, and valves.
Engine Clicking
When clicking noises occur from the engine, it usually indicates low oil levels. Check the car oil using a dipstick and restore the oil levels to the recommended level. If the clicking sound persists, it's best to have our technicians check the upper valve train to see if there are damaged parts.
Knocking Sound Under the Hood
A knocking sound under the hood is a sign that you need a mechanic's urgent attention. This noise can be caused by varying components: valves, connecting rods, pistons, and other issues.
Engine Squealing
One contributor of a squealing engine sound could be the accessory belt, which operates significant components, such as the alternator, compressor, and power steering pump, in older vehicles. Too loose or too tight of a serpentine belt may be the primary cause of the squealing engine in newer vehicles.
