What's New For the 2020 Nissan Altima?

As part of a sixth-generation production cycle, which debuted for 2019, the 2020 Nissan Altima continues to be refined as one of the top four-door midsize sedans around. In addition to the all-wheel drivetrain option, which first appeared in the 2019 model, this iteration now has its full suite of driver assistance features expanded to more trims. In addition, the top-level trim now has the option of a memory function for the driver-side mirror positions.

2020 Altima has a Wide Selection of Features

There are five trims of the 2020 Nissan Altima: the S, SR, SV, SL, and Platinum. The Altima S is the baseline for the model's features, which include cloth seat trim, 8-way power adjustability on the driver's seat, a smart key system with push-button engine ignition, remote engine start, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, hands-free wireless connectivity, the Advanced Drive-Assist Display, six-speaker audio, Siri Eyes Free as a virtual assistant, hands-free text messaging, four USB ports and an audio jack for hooking up portable devices, a three-month SiriusXM Radio subscription, NissanConnect infotainment integration, and an 8-inch touchscreen.

Upgrading to the SR or any trim above it would introduce a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the SR is the only variant with sport-style cloth seats. The Altima SV gets additions and enhancements such as steering-wheel and front-seat heating, driver-side power lumbar support, dual-zone automatic temperature control, a garage-door opener, and auto-dimming ability on the rearview mirror. The SL trim gets a 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, leather seat trim, HD Radio, and a navigation system with voice recognition technology. Unique to the Platinum are a driver-side memory system and a nine-speaker Bose stereo system.

2020 Nissan Altima Under the Hood

2020 Nissan AltimaTypically, the 2020 Altima is powered by a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine (I4). If you stick with the standard front-wheel drivetrain, that engine produces 188 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. Equipped with the optional all-wheel drive, that same engine generates 182 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. You can swap the 2.5-liter with a 2.0-liter turbo I4 instead on the SR and Platinum-at the expense of the availability of the all-wheel drivetrain. This 2.0-liter, which is known as the VC-TURBO, has a peak output of 248 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.

Nissan Altima Safety Technologies

2020 Nissan AltimaAt the S trim level, the 2020 Nissan Altima counts a rearview camera, electronic stability control, traction control, rear door alert, cruise control, hill start assist, a four-wheel anti-lock disc brake system, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, active ride control, driver alertness, trace control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a theft-deterrent system, and eight airbags. Blindspot warning, a rear sonar system, high beam assist, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear automatic braking are added on the SR.

At the SV trim level, Nissan introduces automatic brake hold, ProPILOT Assist technology, and intelligent lane intervention in place of lane departure warning. The SL and Platinum have traffic sign recognition; the latter has its rearview camera replaced with an around-view one.
