What's New For The 2019 Nissan LEAF

The 2019 Nissan LEAF electric hatchback, is roomier, more comfortable, has better safety features and more driving range than ever before. Plus, Nissan has added the technologically-advanced Propilot automated cruise control system. In heavy traffic it can handle acceleration and deceleration as long as the vehicle stays in the same lane and the driver keeps their hands on the steering wheel. The driver can also select the single-pedal driving mode where the accelerator has control of both acceleration and deceleration. Nissan also plans to standardize the new feature called Rear Door Assist, which reminds the driver they should check the back seat when they park the car.

Trims and Features

Nissan's 2019 LEAF comes in three trims. There's the base S trim, the SL and the SV. The S trim features 16" steel wheels, remote keyless entry, first row LCD monitor, SiriusXM AM/FM satellite radio with seek-scan, cloth seat trim and automatic front air conditioning. The SL trim adds 17" machined aluminum wheels with painted accents, HD radio, front fog and driving lights and a navigation system. Choose the SV trim and you get leather seat trim, lumbar supported driver seat, heated cushions and seat backs on the driver and front passenger seats and heated mirrors.

Horsepower and Drivetrain

2019 Nissan LEAFThe 5 passenger 2019 Nissan LEAF is powered by a 147 horsepower electric motor and a 60-kWh battery that together deliver 236 pound-feet or torque. The front-wheel drive EV has a one-speed automatic transmission and the new version of the power pack gives the LEAF a range of 270 miles before it need to be recharged. The new LEAF can be recharged to 80% in about 40 minutes with a fast charger. Plus, the EV goes from zero to 60 miles per hour in a decent 8.5 seconds and zooms along effortlessly even at high speed. Insiders say Nissan will release a more powerful LEAF with a range of as much as 400 miles in the near future.

Advanced Safety Gear

They include anti-lock brakes that automatically modulate brake pressure and increases the ability of the vehicle to turn while braking in extreme situations. There's also stability control that can automatically reduce engine power as well as apply select brakes to help prevent loss of control by the driver should the system sense the handling limits of the vehicle have been reached. The 2019 Nissan LEAF also has front-impact, side impact and overhead airbags to protect occupants during frontal or side impact collisions or rollovers. The EV has seatbelt pretensioners that automatically tighten the seat belts during a collision to create the optimal safe seating for the occupants. Nissan has also equipped the LEAF with a security system that detects unwanted vehicle intrusion and can disable the ignition.
