Federal EV Tax Credit

What Should Georgia Drivers Know About EV Tax Credits and Charger Incentives?

Federal EV incentives are changing. The Clean Vehicle Credit, worth up to $7,500, is set to expire on September 30, 2025, unless extended. The credit for home EV charger installations will end on June 30, 2026. If you're thinking about purchasing an electric Nissan, the window to act is closing.

How Much Can You Save and Do You Qualify?

The Clean Vehicle Credit offers up to $7,500 based on your vehicle's manufacturing details. Here's how it breaks down:

  • $3,750 if the EV meets battery component requirements
  • $3,750 if it meets critical mineral sourcing rules

Some vehicles only qualify for part of the credit. Others may not qualify at all. Confirm eligibility before purchasing.

What Must a Nissan EV Meet to Qualify?

To qualify for the federal credit, a Nissan EV must:

  • Vehicle must be brand new at purchase
  • Battery capacity of at least 7 kilowatt-hours (kWh)
  • Final assembly in North America
  • Manufactured by a qualified automaker

Price limits apply:

  • Under $80,000 MSRP for trucks, SUVs, and vans
  • Under $55,000 MSRP for all other vehicles
The sale must be reported to the IRS, and you must meet income limits.

Why Is Timing So Important?

Once these programs expire, there’s no guarantee they’ll return. The Clean Vehicle Credit ends on September 30, 2025, and the home charger credit ends June 30, 2026. Waiting could mean missing out on thousands in potential savings.
